Aruba has an interesting history. Alonso de Ojeda claimed Aruba in 1499 and in 1634 it was taken over by the Dutch. In 1824, gold was discovered on this island until there was no more. Then the aloe plant was used as it’s primariy crop and Aruba became the world’s leading sloe producer.

A large refinery was built on the tip of the island and has been owned and operated for many years. Aruba has become a favorite tourist location since 1959 when perfect beaches and clear blue waters were found and enjoyed and still appreciated today.

The Capital of Aruba is Oranjestad. There are approximately 34,000 people living on 74 square miles. The language is Dutch but many speak English with many tourists visiting this Caribbean island!
